Slither
From TSade
I just saw Slither today and I enjoyed it as a movie goes. It was a horror movie, not unlike many of the other ones out there, but it was less of a brain-fucker type and more of a campy horror movie, starting the Nathan Fillion from Firefly (who still looks yummy, by the way). It was a nice little movie that did not take itself too seriously, but it also reminded me greatly of seeing Night of the Living Dead as a play near where I live. It was also somewhat campy and occasionally made fun of itself. I like movies that do that.
I don't like to give details about a movie, but it has some interesting components. The first, of course, was the tiny little slugs on the movie poster. They were cute and played the roll of the horror monster in much of the movie, but there were a few scenes where they were... just too much. The worse was probably when they first come out.
There is also another scene with the naked teenager in the tub (from the poster). The slugs like to crawl into mouths to do nasty things. Naturally, the slug ignore what would be the obvious openings between her legs to go for her mouth. That sets the sexual tone of the movie pretty well, the slugs almost but never quite do anything naughty. The same goes for the tentacles, people, and everything else. Even the nightgown that is spirit-gummed to someone's breasts (it's pretty obvious). Just a nice little teasing movie which is still enjoyable.
One thing I noticed about the movie was the remarkably diverse population the city had in the middle of nowhere. There were very few white people, but most of them were "interesting". Of course, all the main characters were white and pretty, as opposed to apparently 90% of the rest of the town, but it was still nice to show they are trying, even if they haven't gotten that far.
The plot moved rather quickly. That was actually very nice since there wasn't any bits where I didn't really lose interest in the characters, nor do I break my suspension of disbelief (which is great to start with).
One bit I didn't like was the animals. There are a couple minutes when they go into graphic detail of what happened to the animals in the story. Including dripping blood, half-exposed innards, and the like. Naturally, no real animals were hurt, but the movie animals were sure ripped part pretty nicely. If you don't care for animals being hurt, avoid the stinger at the end of the credits. It's the typical type for this type of movie, but not really animal friendly.
The movie actually had a couple bondage scenes. Nothing really impressive and no sex, but it was interesting to see the girl in chains.
My reviews of movies are always of how many times I would see it in the theater, wait for it on DVD, or "want my life back." In this case, I would probably see the movie once more in the theater, but no more than that.
